R.I.P. Alexander McQueen

News of a brilliant and influential fashion designer’s untimely death has brought me to tears.

Alexander McQueen, the extremely popular, talented and creative designer of our generation, was found dead today. It was unexpected, for sure. And, as a huge fan of his designs and creativity, I’m completely and utterly devastated.

I know most fashion consumers in Second Life view the virtual fashion world as a separate entity to the one in our everyday lives’, but it’s not. A lot of pieces in Second Life are influenced by the creations of real life designers. Alexander McQueen is one.

Here’s to thinking outside the box, for creating pieces that I absolutely admire. Rest in peace, Mr. Brilliant.

2009 SL FootWear Expo

Running from November 22nd to December 6th, this year’s SL Footwear Expo benefits the Marine Toys for Tots organization.

Teleport and enjoy! Also, check out the event’s official blog for more information and for a schedule on the entertainment lined up.

Modern Pop

I’m still alive.  Just been in hibernation (well, sort of).  I’ve been busy with classes and what not and haven’t had a lot of time to update the blog.

But I’m back… sort of.  It’s been a long time coming, but this new entry reflects some of the fashion presented to us by RL pop icons.

The outfit is overwhelming black, which is what I was going for….  The dress with the studded shoulder pads is from Madsy; for 150L, it’s pretty affordable.  The details on it is also very stylish, but the photo doesn’t exactly reflect that (fault on my part, sorry).  The gems are from Mandal; I absolutely love them.

I incorporated the belt and the necklace for a lovely hint of pink.

The boots are free at Maitreya.  Join their update subscribo group and check their history for the shoes.

Enjoy,

Emily

I don’t always post freebie updates on the blog, but instead do it via notecards that I send as group notices. So if you want to be in the know about quality freebies (or what I would consider quality freebies), join the group in world. Miss Professional

Hi!

Before I start my style entry, I wanted to drop a few news out there about skins. Loads of skin stores have surfaced over the past few weeks/months. Tons of places have revamped themselves and are giving away free skins to promote their launch or relaunch.

The rise of skin market businesses is no surprise. More and more designers are practicing their photoshop ability to embark on the endeavor of creating skins. Of course, not all of them meet the standards that you and I would like like them to meet, but the competition will hopefully drive up the quality of the skins in the market. Skin creators will have to get more creative and innovative to stand out in the industry.
Skins1

The skins featured here are from Lazolli/L’oring. The skins range from 0L-2L and are hidden within the skin collections; you’ll have to click through the vendors to find them, and yeah, there are a lot of make-up choices for each set, so you’ll be doing a lot of clicking and canceling. The make-up options are quite interesting and vary from soft and subtle to wild and outlandish. Each collection has one tone/complexion and only one brow option, as each collection is based off of a look (real life celebrities).

The brand has recently been revised to include a larger collection of real life celebrities: Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Cher, Madonna, Britney Spears, Nicole Scherzinger, etc. (You’d be surprised about who’d want to walk around looking like them.)

The skins aren’t the best out there, but the five skins that were for free or nearly free caught my interest. Some of them, like the Nicole skin I’m featuring in this style entry, have really strong, intense make-up on. It’s kind of excessive in that the make-up is heavy handed. The make-up is too bold for a causal look. I decided to put on a pair of shades from Kalnins Sunglasses to resolve the problem. The shades go for L$500, not exactly “cheap,” but I really love them; they come with a great menu where you can control whether the shades are on your nose or up resting on your head, the color of the lens, etc. The glasses come with a lot of other functions, such as nearby avatar detection. You should teleport to the store to try out the demo; there are a wide variety of designs. Kalnins also makes great shoes, which I’ll probably feature in another entry.

69 Bag

I went with a professional summer look in which I could carry the free bag I got from the “:: Sixty-Nine :: Update Group.” There’s an enrollment fee of L$300 to join the group, but I think it’s worth it as Kumii Yoshikawa gives out great gifts. I love the bag; it adds a bit of character to the look, keeps it from being too boring.

The Latest Free Skins

I rounded up the latest four free skins to review and these are my opinions. I tend to go for photorealistic skins. Others, on the other hand, are attracted to drawn skins. So it’s really a matter of taste.

Vintage

I know, I know. I’m not that great of a photographer, but I’m trying. I really am. And to be honest, it takes me longer to do things, especially fashion posts, because I’m always multi-tasking during every project.

But I messed around the other day to find a classic look and liked the one I came up with. Thing was, I got the pictures taken and then cropped, etc. and posted on flickr, but didn’t have time to write up everything for a post on the blog.

But now that I’m not really doing anything, I guess I’ll post it.
