Stiletto Moody Skins

Stiletto Moody Skins. Yay or nay?

Not gonna lie; I was excited to hear that Stiletto Moody was launching a cosmetic skin line. The extremely-enhanced preview pictures like the one I blogged about last year generated much of the excitement for me. (The promotional ads of the skin above, however, look a bit, shall we say, witchy to me.)

The skins were released early this year, and after trying them on, I have to say that I’m pretty disappointed; the skins definitely don’t live up to my expectations.

The Stiletto Moody skin is pretty lackluster compared to the ones designed by already well-established skin brands. It’s also pricier, to say the least. A single skin from Stiletto Moody will ring up for L$1199. A fatpack with about 21 make-up options will cost you L$7,999.

There are five skin tones to choose from: Pale, Fair, Beach, Sun and Cinnamon. I’m wearing the demo in pale; from what I saw, there’s only one demo of each tone. In an ideal world, when paying for a demo ($L1), there should be a demo of all the make-up options. I’d like to see how the different make-up would look on my face.

Here’s the skin with the shape I normally wear:

And here it is with the demo shape it comes with:

The face is pretty meh. The lips are beautiful, but they don’t make up for everything the skin lacks.

I don’t generally strip down for skin reviews; haven’t done that for the blog so far (I also don’t ever review demos, so…), but I think it’s worth talking about and, therefore, see:

(FYI, I’m still wearing the demo shape for these candid shots.)

I like the highlights and all that, and like that the body isn’t super shiny. But there aren’t really that many memorable details about the skin. Usually, before purchasing a skin, I, of course, evaluate the skin head to toe for all the correct bits, but I also look for parts to motivate and cement my purchase. You know, the “oh, I have to have this skin because I love the ____” reaction. I didn’t really get that reaction with this skin.

The nipples look boring, and I don’t think their color pigment compliments the skin tone very well. I’m also not sure why the inner thigh friend is covered up; consumers like myself sort of want to know what we’re buying and expecting when we undress…

I did like the shoulder blades and butt, but not enough for me to forfeit L$1199.

Overall, the skin is mediocre, but it isn’t for me. It’s not to say, though, that it won’t be for other skin enthusiasts.

For now, I think Stiletto Moody should stick to designing and improving their quality shoes, of which I’m still a fan of.

P.S. I didn’t check to see if the skin had cleavage options or a hairbase option, which is pretty much a must nowadays in the market. But I don’t think it does, which constitutes another major point deduction. LOL.

What do you think?

CandyDoll Jasmin Skin Review

CandyDoll sent me Jasmin, their recent skin release to review. The Jasmin skin comes in 4 tones (pale, tan, tanned and dark); there are 6 make-ups for each tone, with hairbase and cleavage options. Each skin will cost you L$700, but you can get a one-tone fatpack with all 6 make-ups for L$2,500. The fatpack also gives 2.0 viewer users the option to mix and match six different lip colors with each of the skins.

There isn’t a blonde brow/hairbase option for blondes out there though. Blondes may have to wait for that.

I’m reviewing the skin in pale, which looks quite beautiful with the Asian shape I normally wear.

As with most of CandyDoll skin releases, the Jasmin skin has very luscious and plumb lips; the lips are perhaps one of the many signatures of the brand. I can easily recognize a CandyDoll skin from a mile away. The Jasmin skin’s lip looks moist and a bit glossed, but not overtly so, which I like. The make-up isn’t overwhelming and the skin isn’t too pixelated; in fact, the skin is really a soft beauty. I wish, though, that there were even more make-up options (perhaps, smokey eyes?).

Modavia Fashion Week – The Niven Collection

I’ve already noted Modavia Fashion Week as an important event for the month of September, so this is only a reminder. Also, I now have the location of the shows: here.

The week-long event starts today, the 9th, the same day as the real life Mercedes-Benz NY Fashion Week, and will preview new Fall collections from various high fashion labels. The show kicks off with Chantkare at 1PM SLT, and ends on the 16th with Baiastice at 4PM.

The event is sponsored by LeLutka and supported by media partners Avenue Magazine, Deja Vu International Magazine and Wilder Public Relations. The event is also supported by Linden Lab and Treet.tv.

While the event is sponsored by LeLutka, LeLutka isn’t in the show, which I find kind of disappointing. Regardless, I am looking forward to several shows, particularly Leezu, Boudoir, Paper Couture, Eshi, and Baiastice (all high fashion that I have admired from afar). There are several others, too, so I’ll be trying my best to attend the shows. Hopefully, I won’t be lagged out of the event. Will have to lower my graphics and restart my computer before I attend. Then again, I can always watch it live on Treet.tv. (To see the schedule for all 35 shows, visit the event’s official blog.)

A few days ago, I received review copies from Scarlett Niven of the Niven Collection, and she provided me two outfits to review before her show on the 12th, at 1PM. I’ve been meaning to review them sooner, but had other commitments.

The two outfits are very avante garde. They’re not everyday ready-to-wear. But, as you can see from the simple pictures, it’s fairly easy to appreciate the artistic and creative vision invested in the designs.

The black ensemble called “MonoChrome-Raven Flown II” has a lot of texture to it and came with make-up for SL view 2.0. I styled it with big hair from BP, shoes from Maitreya and my favorite pair of gloves from LeLutka.

The white outfit would have been perfect a labor day entry… In fact, I’m kicking myself now for not featuring it on Monday. :-/ The outfit is so serene…. The leggings with clouds make it seem like I’m floating on them. The little head and shoulder piece and gloves (not pictured) are all painted with a head; the heads might be intimidating to some, but they’re very unique and add a bit of mystery to the look. I love the vertical lines down the torso and the seams are nice.

You can see the full fall Niven Collection this Sunday, the 12th, at 1PM, at the Modavia Fashion Week. See you there.

Exclusive Fall Preview, Part 2 – Meghindo

This is part two of the Meghindo exclusive fall preview.

I’m presenting a fall outfit called “Admiral”, a beautiful head-to-toe look that includes a pair of gloves, a bag and a pair of boots. The militant look is strong and tasteful without being too literal. It’s high fashion and on trend with real life’s fall look. It’s a look that any strong confident woman can pull off without too much effort.

The army green may be a turn-off to some, but it’s actually what makes the look; the army green connotes power and commands attention in a subtle and controlled way. Also, if the top and the skirt together is too much green for you, you could always create/customize a different look with the pieces; the pieces individually are strong enough to stand on their own.

A Touch of Sensual from Meghindo & Fall Preview

If high fashion, luxury and glamour pique your interest, this entry may be something of interest to you.

I received several review copies and exclusive fall previews today from Meghindo. All the items inspired me to create some of my best photography yet. And I’m really excited to show you. I’m also featuring some exclusive group gifts from Meghindo after the page jump; they’re very beautiful pieces.

If you have not heard of Meghindo, please know that it is not a new store. It has been open for quite some time; in fact, I featured a beautiful diamond pink dress from Meghindo last year; the look remains one of my faves that I’ve put together. Items from Meghindo are often inspired by real life Hollywood glam and fashion. Meghindo Romano does a great job of interpreting and translating real life fashion into Secondlife must-haves. Fashion from Meghindo is fashion forward, sensual, sexy and ultra feminine and beautiful. Dresses from Meghindo often comes with accessories and shoes, as well; although, not always.

The first dress I’m featuring is called “Vanda”. It retails for L$450 and comes with flexi and sculpty train options; as you can see in the picture, I prefer the sculpty train. It’s very beautifully sculpted and I love the shape; the sculpty train option isn’t something offered by every designer.

The second dress is inspired by Barbie and comes in a long gown and a shorter dress version; together, they retail for L$500. The sequin patterns are incredibly intricate and luxurious.

The shoulder armour, the texture and sequins of the shorter version of the dress remind me of the aesthetic of the real life fashion house Balmain. Yum. The color is also ultra feminine, an aspect that balances out the strong armour shoulders (on-trend with this year’s real life’s fall militant-inspired look). I paired the dress with a pair of red gloves from Fleur (a brand that’s now nonexistent) and tight thigh high boots from the Meghindo fall collection; it’s one of the items not released yet. The hair is by Dernier Cri from the hair fair; I wanted to feature it in this entry somehow and it seemed appropriate for the dress. The hair is very flirty, seductive and bold.

Now for the exclusive fall preview: Continue reading ‘A Touch of Sensual from Meghindo & Fall Preview’

Plain and Simple

I was sent a pack of jeans from CandyDoll yesterday to review, which is what I’m featuring today.  They come in three colors (blue, gray and tan); each of which are in three shades (regular, light and dark).  The jeans look a bit washed out, especially the light ones (which isn’t a bad thing at all if that’s the look you’re going for); I tend to favor darker jeans though, which is why I’m featuring the gray and blue ones in the darker shade.  The tan jeans featured is in the regular shade.  The jeans are L$100 each, which isn’t a bad deal at all.  They’re just plain simple jeans that you can just slip on for a casual day (I actually went shopping in them).

(Jeans from left to right: “Just Jeans Maro”, “Just Jeans Greay_Dark” & “Just Jeans Normal_Dark”)

For the simple look, I decided to accessorize lightly with understated items.  The pair of wedges from J’s came with two different textures (solid gold and cork), so I decided to wear one on each foot.  I went for a bag from LeLutka and a silver link bracelet from Cake.

I’m wearing a Cstar skin from the Think Pink Hunt and a preview skin called Continue reading ‘Plain and Simple’

Soleil, After the Storm

Designer ColeMarie Soleil dropped me off several dresses from her new collection yesterday to review.

Because I couldn’t get this entry out as quickly as I wanted to (I needed time to style, do the pictures, etc.), other bloggers have already blogged about the dresses. But I think I offer a different take on the styling.

I chose to represent several, if not all, of the black ensembles provided to me. Most fashion bloggers and fashion editors know that black isn’t exactly ideal for pictures; they’re not very “editorial.” It’s very difficult to make out the details of them because they get lost in the composition of the pictures. But that’s not stopping me from making the most of the fabulous haute couture with some photoshopping.

The ensembles all came with a hair accessory or a hat, all of which I used. The clothes speak for themselves, so I’ll let them do just that. I will say, however, that there are lots of movements to the dresses. The dresses also have some great silhouettes.

Left to right: “The Soul Eater”; “Lotus d’Anley”; “La Fleur Triste”.

I love what the material from “The Soul Eater” hat provided for this picture:

And then after the storm, came a beautiful rainbow, the “After the Storm” dress:

Soleil designs can be found at the store.

Platinum Hunt – Skins

The weak wifi connection I have is driving me crazy, but I managed to take snapshots of eight skins from the Platinum Hunt. All of them are very different, as they are created by various designers with very distinct aesthetics. The skins are L$10 each and can be found in an open box with a pearl in each of the stores mentioned.

This first set features skins from (in chronological order from left to right) ISPACHI, Dekade, Candydoll, and Rockberry. The Ispachi skin is very glamorous with luscious defined lips; the eyeshadow is very beautiful. The highlights in the face is a bit too much for my taste and makes the cheeks look hallow, but that’s only my opinion; and some people have a preference for that. The Dekade skin is a sunkissed skin from the Brooke 2 skinline and comes with a hair and no hair option (I love this skin). The Candydoll skin is has the cutest face with soft eyes and light lips; there might be something wrong with the eyes (might be the eyelash layer) or something. It’s still beautiful with the slight flaw. The Rockberry skin is called Kalista and looks a bit powdery(?) in the face, but I love the eyebrows and the definition in the lips; it comes in four tones (tan, natural, light and dark), three brow options (blonde, black, brown) and cleavage and no cleavage options. I’m wearing the light tone (brown brows option).

The second set features (chronologically from left to right) Glam Affair, Mons, Slutcookie, and Mynera. The Glam Affair skin is very elegant with beautiful brows; it comes with a pair of Stella eyes. The Mons skin looks a bit funny due to the open lips and odd teeth display, but I actually think it’s cute in a quirky way. The Slutcookie (I’m not all that into the name) skin (with the running mascara) looks a bit awkward on the shape I’m using, but it does have an unconventional and understated beauty to it. The Mynera skin is quite beautiful and is perhaps more fantasy oriented; it comes with blue and red lip options and black, blue or no eyeband options. I’m wearing the red lips with the black eyeband.

Note: I mostly cropped and resized the pictures. I didn’t do any photoshopping to them. I would have loved to review the bodies for you, but I usually leave nudity to the imagination on this blog (at least for now). Besides, if you’re really into one of the faces shown (and identify with it), I’m sure you’ll go investigate the body bits for yourself.

Good luck hunting. Tomorrow, I will try to throw out another blog entry featuring some fashion and accessories from the hunt.

Summer Minimal

It seems like everyone and their parents are making skins these days; it provides for a better market and there’s nothing better than variety…  But when so many skins have infiltrated the market, it’s difficult to determine the best.

But fear not. I’m here to show you some amazing skins.  (That was cheesy!!  Hahaha.)

While shopping today, the designer of the Powder Room stopped me and suggested that I take a look at her skins.  As a fan of skins, I went to the store, a location at the Maritima Inc. (a Fashion Metropolis), and proceeded to try them on.  While the display of the skins at the store isn’t like others at well-established brands, the skins are actually pretty cute with beautiful detailed.

The skins go L$500 each.  A fatpack of 4 skins goes for L$1500.  There are six different skins currently available.  I’m showing you “Sophistiquee” in 4 eyeshadow choices:

Since there are only four eyeshadow choices, Fleur Orchid, the owner of the Powder Room, is willing to customize the make-up for you, should you be interested.  The skin would be L$500 and a service fee of L$250/hr will be charged for the customized skin.

For the look for this entry, I decided to wear Sophistiquee Sun Boquet skin (the first one).  The yellow eyeshadow is very summery and goes great with the stylish dress from ORTA (free when you subscribe to the subscribo box thingy at the mainstore).  I’m wearing my favorite pair of shoes from Maitreya Gold, a free hat and bag from Dekade at the Glance sim.

As you can see, I kept the colors very neutral. Beige. Just very simple. I like simplicity, at least today. Nice and beige, a nice compliment to the golden tan.

Winter Silhouette – A Little Funk

I haven’t done an editorial or a review in a while, which is sad because I love doing them.  They’re a lot of work though, obviously.  But I’ve had some free time these past couple of days, so I will be bringing you more and more of them and will be taking you into the New Year in style.

The funky look in this entry incorporates a bit of everything, from the ultra trendy down vest to the bulky shorts.  I did not initially intend for the “funky” vibe of the look, but it happened and I went with it.  Everything sort of came organically.  But what ultimately made the look interesting is the pop of color the magenta tube top and necklace provided (both of which are from Armidi).  The vest from Aoharu has great shading to it and came with a flannel shirt I decided not wear.  It also came with a fur/no fur hood option; I’m wearing the fur option (because fur is back in style this winter).  The vest is from one of Aoharu’s many winter releases, most of which are jackets and outerwear.  Aoharu also does men wear, which makes it possible for couples wear similar outfits (which can be cute).

The bulky black shorts were a September group gift from NINIKA, a popular brand belonging to Japanese designer Kae Sahara.  I paired beige tights with the shorts just to neutralize the look a little bit.

The bracelets/hand jewelry are from Mandala, a brand from another Japanese designer named kikunosuke Eel, a man who’s behind the fabulously designed Tempura Island.  The bracelets are very beautiful; they incorporate the hands and compliment the gloves.

The boots are from Mentine and were review copies sent to me by owner valentine Biddle.  The boots come in 12 colors and go for 690L a pop.  A pair of complimentary ankle boots is given for free with purchase.  The boots have a great menu that allows you to adjust the size of the boots and even change the textures of the boots, zippers, soles, etc.  I did, however, have a problem with the texture changer…  It would change only parts of the boot and not the entirety of the boots.  Maybe the problem’s just restricted to me.  I also wished that there were a little more shadings to the boots, because they looked a bit washed out to me from a distance.  But the boots are quite lovely. You can see for yourself when you teleport to the store and try them on.

The skin, by the way, is from LeLutka and is FREE at Le.Look, a mall with top end stores; the skin is part of a complete avatar give-away.  Various designers contributed to the complete avatar, providing shoes, hair, etc.  Loads of quality items can be found.  A complete avatar is also given away for men.  And yes, it’s so good that it’s nearly impossible to teleport to the location (region always seems to be full), but keep trying.  I’m also sure that there’s an expiration date to the give-away, so get them before they’re gone.
