First October Style Entry

If anyone’s been noticing, I haven’t really been posting style entries lately. Most of all my entries this month have been on events and what not.

School has been keeping me busy… and life, in general. So, I haven’t been on SL long enough to put together a look. On top of that, Flickr has advised me that I’m beginning to reach the maximum amount (200) of uploads possible for free users. Pretty soon, I’ll have to shell out some dollar bills if I want to continue posting blog pictures there.

I haven’t done any of the style entries that I’ve been planning to do for this month. As I’ve said, it has to do with my schedule, but I’ve also been too tired to work on many other extracurricular activities.

As I’m writing this up, it’s getting late. So I’m going to present this look now and will continue with more style entries as soon as I find more time (bear with me).

I’m wearing a free outfit from the “**BAIASTICE*** by Sissy Pessoa” update group (the black gloves are included). It’s a monthly group gift for the month of October. (By the way, if you’re not already in the Baiastice group, message Sissy Pessoa to add you in it because membership is close.) The black Mary Jane shoes are also free from the “Slink. Classy gear for classy babes” update group. The look is great for an evening out dancing. The flair in the suitpants is a bit too much for me, but I like the details of the outfit.

The bag is L$150 from Celestial Studio. The intricate jewelry set was sent to me as a review copy from Finesmith Designs. The set is part of their O for Oxygen Collection. The jewelry can be edited with the script.

A rep from Finesmith also wanted me to publicize a runway series for them. The runway series features models competing for the “Ms. FS Stylista” title. Each Friday morning at 9AM SLT, for the next 8 weeks, the competing models will style an outfit with an item of jewelry from the store according to the week’s theme. Anyway, the series began last week on the 8th with a “steampunk” theme. Tomorrow’s theme (week 9) is “Kitsch”. Here’s a landmark to the show(s), so check it out when you’re free.

Attending Opening Shows @ MFW

Here’s what I wore to the opening shows at Modavia Fashion Week:

I kept it really easy, simple and chic with a plain black tunic from Armidi Limited and a crop jacket from Dela.

There isn’t a dress code for the event, but it’s kind of obvious that you shouldn’t be attending in full on haute couture, unless you’re one of the models. I saw a couple of people who wore really outrighteous outfits to the show; it made me wonder if they were going to see the show or going to BE the show. Maybe they wanted to look their best; so if looking their best means full-out haute couture, I guess I’m all for it. (And for some, looking their best meant looking risque and vulgar…. hmmm. LOL.)

I opted for an understated yet stylish look that I would definitely wear to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, had I been invited. The gloves made it more dressy (and I would probably do without it in real life). I didn’t want to disappear entirely in black, so I tugged on a heavily shaded white crop jacket (looks beige to me) I had waiting in my inventory. I also wore black because I knew it’d be a great contrast to the white interior of the building.

I edited the Aloha hair by Truth from Project Donate; I basically made it a bit longer due to my height. I probably shouldn’t have wore such a heavy prim hair to the show, but… hey, we all break rules. LOL.

I only stuck around for two shows: Chantkare and Modern Gypsy. I saw the beginning of the third show, but it didn’t keep my attention, so I left and had dinner instead. Chantkare and Modern Gypsy presented very different collections; Chantkare’s collection was very colorful and bright, and Modern Gypsy kept it black and white with great silhouettes (although the garments didn’t have a lot of movement). The Modern Gypsy collection is very monochromic; it kind of reminds me of all the black Vera Wang put out for her Fall 2010 collection, and, no, I’m not comparing the two because they’re quite different. What stood out to me from the Modern Gypsy collection was the intricate necklace pieces; they stood out against all the black.

I enjoyed both collections. Both fashion houses did a great job of telling a story; they were both interesting, cohesive collections.

Modavia Fashion Week – The Niven Collection

I’ve already noted Modavia Fashion Week as an important event for the month of September, so this is only a reminder. Also, I now have the location of the shows: here.

The week-long event starts today, the 9th, the same day as the real life Mercedes-Benz NY Fashion Week, and will preview new Fall collections from various high fashion labels. The show kicks off with Chantkare at 1PM SLT, and ends on the 16th with Baiastice at 4PM.

The event is sponsored by LeLutka and supported by media partners Avenue Magazine, Deja Vu International Magazine and Wilder Public Relations. The event is also supported by Linden Lab and Treet.tv.

While the event is sponsored by LeLutka, LeLutka isn’t in the show, which I find kind of disappointing. Regardless, I am looking forward to several shows, particularly Leezu, Boudoir, Paper Couture, Eshi, and Baiastice (all high fashion that I have admired from afar). There are several others, too, so I’ll be trying my best to attend the shows. Hopefully, I won’t be lagged out of the event. Will have to lower my graphics and restart my computer before I attend. Then again, I can always watch it live on Treet.tv. (To see the schedule for all 35 shows, visit the event’s official blog.)

A few days ago, I received review copies from Scarlett Niven of the Niven Collection, and she provided me two outfits to review before her show on the 12th, at 1PM. I’ve been meaning to review them sooner, but had other commitments.

The two outfits are very avante garde. They’re not everyday ready-to-wear. But, as you can see from the simple pictures, it’s fairly easy to appreciate the artistic and creative vision invested in the designs.

The black ensemble called “MonoChrome-Raven Flown II” has a lot of texture to it and came with make-up for SL view 2.0. I styled it with big hair from BP, shoes from Maitreya and my favorite pair of gloves from LeLutka.

The white outfit would have been perfect a labor day entry… In fact, I’m kicking myself now for not featuring it on Monday. :-/ The outfit is so serene…. The leggings with clouds make it seem like I’m floating on them. The little head and shoulder piece and gloves (not pictured) are all painted with a head; the heads might be intimidating to some, but they’re very unique and add a bit of mystery to the look. I love the vertical lines down the torso and the seams are nice.

You can see the full fall Niven Collection this Sunday, the 12th, at 1PM, at the Modavia Fashion Week. See you there.

September Events

September is here, which ultimately means that Fall’s coming. School’s starting. Vacation’s over (if you had one). And in terms of real life fashion, spring trends are coming; designer houses are set to debut their Spring/Summer 2011 collection during Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, from the 9th to the 16th. Very exciting, of course, but unless you’re important enough to gain access to the event (or sneaky enough to squeeze in), you’ll probably be sitting home, pursuing the internet for clips of the shows, like me.

Either way, you may be glad to hear that Fashion Week event in Secondlife (produced by Modavia Productions) will be more inclusive (well, however you may define that term). Every fashionista/fashionisto is welcomed. Last year, the event was produced by Runway Magazine. The fashion industry in the virtual world of SL has become more organized since I first ventured into modeling in 2007; it has changed and improved for the better.

More and more fashion houses are doing seasonal collections, something of which I believe to be a great idea. Ultimately, the virtual fashion industry’s beginning to mimic that of real life’s. No surprise there. And definitely not a bad thing, in my opinion.

From the press kit sent out by Modavia, I can’t tell if collections will be for fall/winter or spring/summer. However, if I were to guess, I’d say fall/winter, as fashion in SL hasn’t advanced that far yet. Modavia Fashion Week will run in conjunction with the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Show, from the 9th to the 16th. With 4-5 shows running daily, a total of 35 designers will debut their collection by the end of the event. Like last year, there will be on-site boutiques selling designs seen at the shows and, as always, there will be great gift bags from designers and sponsors.

(I will be attending some of the shows and will supply a landmark, as soon as I receive one, in the Fashion Secrets group or the blog.)

Boulevard Agency will also be launching their own fashion week (BOSL FASHION WEEK 2010) from September 18th to September 24th. They will have a total of 7 shows, each daily; their shows will also themed. Here’s a glimpse of what they did last year. I will be providing more information when the event approaches.

Aside from fashion shows, there are also several other fashion events.

The Hair Fair starts this weekend, on the 4th, and will run until the 19th.  This year’s hair fair benefits the Wigs for Kids, which is an incredible organization that supplies wigs for children who have lost their hair as a result of medical treatment, health conditions or burn accidents. Proceeds from selected hair provided by participating designers will be donated to the cause.

Project Donate, an event, that I’ve already blogged about to appeal for contributions, starts this weekend, as well. Designers have responded and created items for the event at a last minute’s notice, which is something to be commended. As I said, the event will run from the 4th to the 19th, but the sim may be open to public access before this weekend. Please purchase selected items to benefit UNICEF’s effort in aiding those affected by the terrible floods in Pakistan.
