Make Over Philip Linden Contest

I know this may have little to do with what I usually blog about for Fashion Secrets, but I thought it’d be a fun contest for stylists or designers out there; it may even be a fun piece of information to marvel over.

If you’ve been following the Secondlife blog, you’d already know about this contest. But if you haven’t, continue reading/skimming.

During his SLCC keynote speech this summer, Philip Linden announced a contest to help him achieve a new look. And by the looks of his profile picture, if I may say so myself, Mr. Philip Linden is in much needed help. I mean, he’s still wearing system hair (definitely a no-no)! All I know is that he’s far from the fashionisto I’m used to seeing while out shopping. In fact, he still looks quite like a noob, and if he weren’t Philip Linden, I’m sure most of us would mistaken him for one.

Fashion isn’t every one’s cup of tea, of course. And I’m not bashing Philip Linden (he’s a very busy man). A lot of avatars just aren’t into looking fashionable, or even obsess over fashion the way I or you do. Well, I don’t know if I obsess over it; I just appreciate great designs. I love supporting designers, their vision, and mostly, I just like putting looks together. It’s like playing dress-up. Or the childhood pastime of playing with barbies.

The contest asks that you customize/create/style a head to toe look for Philip’s new avatar (everything from hair, skin, clothes, accessories, etc.). He will choose his top favorites from the images you submit on flickr and will open up voting to the SL public to decide a winner. The deadline is September 6th, 2010, at noon (12:00PM) Pacific Time. Here‘s the application with more information.

Philip asks contestants to be mindful that he still wants some essence of the old him in the new look. The main point, though, is that he needs an upgrade; a quality youthful skin, a great, flattering shape, some beautiful spiky hair, a stellar outfit…

As Philip is arguably one of SL’s most recognized and celebrated residents, his avatar appears on the pages of magazines, newspapers and websites around the world. So, if you’re a content creator for men’s fashion, the contest would definitely be an opportunity to help generate more visibility for your brand and designs. It may even be a great marketing strategy for your brand; I mean, should you win, your designs would be voted as the best for the creator and CEO of SL. How big is that?!

Other than having the “privilege” or “honor” to say that you dressed and styled the creator of SecondLife, there aren’t any prizes involved with this contest. Don’t ask me why they’re being so stingy (times are tough? LOL).

Plain and Simple

I was sent a pack of jeans from CandyDoll yesterday to review, which is what I’m featuring today.  They come in three colors (blue, gray and tan); each of which are in three shades (regular, light and dark).  The jeans look a bit washed out, especially the light ones (which isn’t a bad thing at all if that’s the look you’re going for); I tend to favor darker jeans though, which is why I’m featuring the gray and blue ones in the darker shade.  The tan jeans featured is in the regular shade.  The jeans are L$100 each, which isn’t a bad deal at all.  They’re just plain simple jeans that you can just slip on for a casual day (I actually went shopping in them).

(Jeans from left to right: “Just Jeans Maro”, “Just Jeans Greay_Dark” & “Just Jeans Normal_Dark”)

For the simple look, I decided to accessorize lightly with understated items.  The pair of wedges from J’s came with two different textures (solid gold and cork), so I decided to wear one on each foot.  I went for a bag from LeLutka and a silver link bracelet from Cake.

I’m wearing a Cstar skin from the Think Pink Hunt and a preview skin called Continue reading ‘Plain and Simple’

UNICEF Project

Truth Hawks of Truth is organizing an event to benefit UNICEF’s efforts in aiding children affected by the terrible floods in Pakistan.  Truth Hawks is appealing to designers and SL merchants to participate and contribute to the event. If you are a designer or blogger who would like to do so, please read below, fill out the following in a notecard and forward it to Unicef Rainfall or Keira Seerose:

Dear lovely SL merchant! <3

I know this is very short notice but this may be something we can do on a regular and ongoing basis. UNICEF are currently raising funds for the Pakistan Flood Crisis. Millions of people have been affected and thousands are without homes.

If you’d like to be part of this fund raising effort you could donate all or part of the proceeds of an item/s (I’d like to request at least 50% of your item/s – can be exclusive, existing, discounted whatever you like!) The point is to raise as much money as we can in the 2 week period.

I will be donating 100% of the proceeds of one hairstyle and doubling the amount raised off my item to go towards this cause. I’ll advertise the fund through my update group and list all the merchants involved. I have ordered a sim “Project Donate” from which you will vend your items (in addition to your own locations). You are free to landmark to your own stores from this location which will be entirely removed from my own sim.

I’ve created an account “Unicef Rainfall” which will collect the proceeds. Once you confirm you’d like to participate I’ll send out all necessary split scripts etc. You will also need a group space available to place your item/s.

Thank you for considering and hope to have you on board!

If you’d like to move forward just send Unicef Rainfall a notecard with your name, store, landmark…sorry this is all a bit informal at the moment :P

Think Pink, Go Hunt! (Preview)

I will be previewing items from the Think Pink Hunt in this entry. The Hunt begins on Monday, the 30th (tomorrow) at Candydoll and will lead you to about 50 stores (mostly stores I’m unfamiliar with). Look for a piece of wrapped candy (it’s small, but you’ll know it when you see it; it’s also pictured in the hunt ad). For a list of all the participating stores, visit the hunt’s blog. You can also join the hunt’s group in world by searching “Think P!nk Hunt Group”.

So, whenever I think pink, I think blonde. And then I think Barbie and Elle Woods. LOL. All this explains why I’m blonde for this entry. :)

I don’t generally go for cutesy… I feel like a lot of bloggers already have that territory covered, but I wanted to change things up a bit and offer a very fun alternative to the looks I generally feature. Besides, it’s really difficult not to look cute in pink, especially when you’re head to toe in it… The thing is, the hunt really offers a great range of pink tones, so you can mix and match clothing from the hunt and still manage not to look too matchy matchy.

Everything in this look, except for the hair and shoes, is from the hunt. There are a pink pair of shoes from the hunt, but I wanted to save that for another entry. Plus, I didn’t find it in my inventory until I snapped and edited all the pictures. (Sigh.)

Purple Edge

I was supposed to bang out a blog entry yesterday evening, but I wasn’t feeling very well; I fell asleep, too. I feel better today, but I’m still a bit sick and… moody.

I’ve been trying to blog more frequently lately, and in terms of blogging, I think I’ve been more productive this month than any other. I started this blog early last year and have been blogging on and off (more off than on).

Fall is coming soon. Grad school, for me, starts next week. I don’t know for how long I’ll be able to keep up blogging like this for, but I will try my best. It’s not unusual for me to be absent for lengthy amounts of time during the school year. School can keep me pretty busy, and I will also have a part time job. And then there are family, friends and a boyfriend. So, like I said, I will try my best.

Some people think blogging is easy; it can be, I guess. But for me, it eats up a lot of time. Maybe there’s a quicker technique I haven’t quite mastered.

Anyway, let me get to tonight’s entry. I also have a bit of news (mostly information about fashion shows and hunts), which I will blog about later.

Tonight’s entry is very reflective of my mood. It’s a bit edgy. Slightly futuristic.

The hair, which is probably the most conspicuous of the look, is a lucky board gift from Continue reading ‘Purple Edge’

Urban Rock Chic

Today’s entry is pretty simple. I wanted to feature more items from the Platinum Hunt, which is still going on, by the way; it ends this month, on the 31st, so you have less than a week to check it out if you really haven’t done so already.

I was going for a bit of an urban rock feel for this entry. Arguably, the vest/tank can be considered a bit preppy, but the styling changes it up (the jeans and gloves, especially). I love, love the hair I got from the Truth hair sale (still going on); it’s a great short wavy bob. I don’t generally go for hair red, but the cherry red the demo came in made me reconsider.

The shoes are by Orange Creations, from the Summer of Love event, which is over. You can still get the shoes from the store, but I’m not quite sure if they come in the same color scheme shown here. I really love those shoes, even though I’ve been struggling to get them to match my Redgrave skin tone.

As you can see, I’m not wearing my Redgrave skin in this entry. I’m wearing a free skin by Glam Affair from the ZombiePopcorn Hunt. I adore the smudged smoky eyeshadow and lips. They’re both beautiful.

I did the same styling for a black and white sculpted top I got from the Platinum Hunt. It’s from Continue reading ‘Urban Rock Chic’

Disco Retro

Got a bit bored tonight and decided to have some fun styling. This is what I came up with:

Vibrant colors. A bit retro, especially with the hair and all. I was playing with the color scheme, because I wanted a bit more variety to my blog entries. Kind of tired of the same-old, same-old. That’s why I’m not even myself…. Instead, I’m wearing one of my shapes from my supermodel collection, called Chanel. I’m also wearing a skin called Chanel. Both are inspired by the real life fashion model Chanel Iman. If you’re into real life fashion, as I am, you’d know who that is.

If you haven’t already, you must check out the SLink shoes (which have been reported about by multiple bloggers by now). They’re ONLY L$70 from the Dressing Room Blue event (for a limited time only so you better hurry). The earrings and jacket are also from the event. If you haven’t heard about the event, you might want to peek out from under that little rock of yours. LOL. Every item at the event goes for under L$70 and a collection of designer goods changes every 2 weeks).

The hair is a free group gift from Continue reading ‘Disco Retro’

LeLutka End of Summer Skin Sale

From August 20th to August 26th, all existing male and female skins at LeLutka are 50% off (which leaves them about L$600 each).

The LeLutka sim will also be closed from August 27th until September 1st to prepare for their new skin line launch.

LeLutka skins are great for modeling; so, if you’re a model or would like to be one, check out the skins.

Free skins, 8/22

These four free skins have been widely blogged about. The first two skins (the only variations are the brows) are free from Tuli; you can find them in the Iconically Sexy Summer Hunt, a hunt that involves various stores on two Iconic Sims. (If you wish to join the hunt, you can teleport here or here. I also sent a notice about the hunt in the Fashion Secrets update group, so you can check that for more information.) The skins are in a black box labeled iconic. They also come with a freckle version. The other skins are free promo skins from FFX Hibiscus, a skin brand from the House of London. Join the group subscribo for the skins.

All six skins featured are from Continue reading ‘Free skins, 8/22′
